Château Les Carrasses | France

Charismatic Dubliner Karl O’Hanlon purchased the abandoned estate in 2011 and, with local winemaker Vignobles Bonfils, transformed it into the effortlessly stylish, family-friendly resort. The19th-century castle is set on 60 acres of vineyards with luxurious hotel suites and self-catering cottages, guests have plenty do to here. Reliably one of the sunniest regions in France, the Languedoc area enjoys a perfect Mediterranean climate with mild short winters and long hot summers. For a start, the Château grounds provide a safe environment for your children to explore and enjoy their freedom, and a lots of of stimulating activities will keep them thoroughly entertained.

The Kids Club is open in July and August. The Kid’s Club is run by bilingual staff and is open for children ages 4-12. It is based around nature, water play, creativity, adventure and sports, adapted to the weather and to the favorite activities of the children that attend each week.  Weekly programme of supervised evening events for children runs throughout the summer holidays – from kids’ dinner parties to mini-discos. Reserve in situ and enjoy a peaceful aperitif while your kids are having fun.

There are plenty of adventures to be had in the Château grounds. Mountain bikes are complimentary. Play tennis or boules. Trips to the petting zoo, aquarium, planetarium, African wildlife park or model museum. Or for more active expeditions, try kayaking, horse-riding, rock-climbing, treetop rope courses or paintball. 

Toddler friendly, certain residences were designed with families with young children in mind: all on one level and some with ground-floor enclosed terraces. A range of baby and toddler essentials is also available on request as well as stair-guards, bed-guards and baby monitors.

Self-catering villas and apartments suits well for large or smaller families. They can accommodate 2-8 people easily. They are converted original buildings of the wine domaine and blend modern comforts with original features.

The Brasserie, enjoy seasonal Mediterranean cuisine by chef Valère Diochet. The chef is loves to use local produce so don’t be alarmed if the menu changes quite often.

Super fresh Mediterranean dishes and brasserie classics, popular with guests and locals alike the brasserie is open year-round.

The winery bar is open daily through the summer as well as for special events and sporting occasions. The salon bar is open year round with a wide selection of wines – a quintessential tour of Languedoc wine-making – from the secret gems to the Grands Crus.

The Terraces, the lower terrace is a beautiful spot for outdoor dining with views across the pool and the vines to the Pyrenees beyond. The terrace bar (summer season, weather dependent) serves wines and classic cocktails on the terrace or by the pool.

The upper terrace is an outdoor lounge with a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable couches and is nicely shaded in the late afternoon.

Its wine country, Château Les Carrasses is a perfect base to discover the diversity, experimentation and sheer verve of the Languedoc – the world’s most exciting wine region. There are literally hundreds of wineries within easy range – St Chinian is on the hotels doorstep while Faugeres, the Corbieres, the Minervois, Picpoul de Pinet, La Clape and the Terrasses du Larzac are all just a short drive.

The villa is 130m2 (suitable for people with reduced mobility).
